Chia seeds contain 20% valuable protein – much more than cottage cheese, cheese and meat. The seeds contain valuable oils with a particularly healthy balance of fatty acids. Three quarters of chia fatty acids are Omega 3 – those with which we supplement our meals by using fish oil or flaxseed, a quarter of fatty acids are Omega 6. They contain five times more calcium than milk, three times more iron than spinach, 15 times more magnesium than broccoli, twice more potassium than bananas. Chia, or Spanish sage, is a legume plant native to Central and South America. It is a valuable food product and was a traditional part of the diet of the ancient Aztec and Mayan tribes.

Chia seeds must be soaked before use. The taste of the seeds is not pronounced, so they can either be used as an additive to another product, or after soaking they can be supplemented with something. A very healthy combination is formed if chia is used with bifido yogurt and similar products with probiotic (healthy bacteria) additives. Soaked chia seeds can also be supplemented with fruit, jam, juices, spices. Add to oatmeal, cereal breakfasts or salads, yogurt, sauces, porridge, meat and fish dishes - anything else. Traditionally in South America, chia seeds are added when baking bread, cookies, cakes, muffins, pastries, pancakes, and pastries. They do not change the taste of the main product, but supplement the food with valuable nutrients necessary for the body. Chia seeds can be used whole. They are easily processed by the body.

2 cups berries

2 tbsp water

2 tbsp chia seeds

2-4 tbsp maple syrup

1 tbsp lemon juice and a pinch of salt.

Heat the berries with water over medium heat until the berries are soft and then mash with a fork. Remove the pot from the heat and add the chia, lemon juice, syrup and a pinch of salt.
