Mustard powder is widely known as a raw material for making mustard and mayonnaise, it is also added in its pure form to first courses. It is an extremely good preservative. Mustard powder is used for salting or smoking mackerel fish, preparing marinades for shish kebabs , as well as for preparing dried meat.

The product is an allergen. As a pungent substance, it can cause irritation to sensitive mucous membranes, so it is safer to mix it with water so that the powder does not float in the air and cause harm.

Mustard powder for washing dishes: sprinkle the powder on the dishes, which absorbs the remains of greasy and oily products very well, including hard-to-wash fish fat, and rinse them with water. You can also pour the powder onto a sponge and then wash everything that is dirty with it. If you prefer a paste consistency, mix the mustard with water, but then you should expect a stronger mustard smell, and the finished detergent cannot be stored for long. Mustard powder helps to cope with any cough. You can, for example, try foot baths.

Pour 150 g of mustard powder and 200 g of salt into a bucket, pour hot water over it and stir to dissolve the salt. Soak your feet up to your ankles and cover them with a blanket. When the water starts to cool, add more hot water. After bathing, rinse your feet with warm water, put on warm socks and go to bed immediately.
A great remedy for a runny nose is a hot foot bath with mustard (1 tablespoon of mustard powder per 5–8 liters of water), as well as baking soda or salt. It is recommended to wear warm socks, preferably wool, at night.

Caution: If you have varicose veins, you should not practice this bath.

Homemade mustard plasters are also good helpers. Mix a tablespoon of mustard powder with a teaspoon of water, let it sit for 20 minutes, then spread the mixture on a stiff paper towel, cover with a piece of gauze, and apply the plaster to your chest or back for 10 minutes.

While holding the patch, of course, you should cover yourself with a warm blanket. You can also do it differently: take 1 tablespoon each of flour, mustard powder, sunflower oil, honey (preferably linden blossom) and 1.5 tablespoons of vodka. Mix everything and heat it in a water bath. Then apply the mass to a piece of cloth folded in several layers and place it on the chest where noises are heard or pain is felt.

Apply a film on top and wrap it with a warm scarf or shawl. Apply the compress for several days in a row, do it in the evening before going to bed and keep it on all night.

In case of a cold, mustard powder is poured into socks and left on for several hours, or it can be done at night before going to bed – then the socks are not taken off until the morning. Then the feet are washed, dried and clean socks are put on.

If you feel unwell (even if your temperature is not elevated), drink 100–120 ml of milk with mustard before going to bed (pour 1/5 teaspoon of it with boiling water and stir into warm milk).

Attention! Unfortunately, the last procedure should be avoided by people suffering from cardiovascular and kidney diseases, varicose veins, and hypertension.
